‘Full Deck Challenge 1 and 2’ by Heather McMahon

Heather McMahon is thrilled that the new Full Deck Challenge is up and running for 2026! The altered playing card challenge is now in its 4th year and is just getting stronger and stronger. Heather loves to participate in it.

These challenges are run by Shana Bebeklis, (shanoukiart) and ArtStacks has two packs designed by Shana! They are the Full Deck pack (named after this challenge) and the Happy Scraps pack. Heather has set herself a challenge to only use Shana’s ArtStacks papers on her projects.

There are a range of prompts to choose from for each challenge this year. For her first card, Heather chose to use the prompts Green, Bird, Hole Punch and Red.

Heather said:
“I took some of Shana’s green background paper, cut it to the shape of my card then tore off one corner to show the card underneath. I chose a red card as Red was one of the prompts. Before I adhered it to the card, I cut out one of the red hearts from the card to use on my title. I punched holes around the edges and outlined the edges with a black pen.
I layered on some of Shana’s script tissue then some of her red background in the bottom right corner. I cut out one of the birdcages and a heart then connected them with thin wire so it looks like the heart is holding up the birdcage.
I finished by tearing a strip from the dictionary paper and adding one of Shana’s titles and the previously cut-out heart.”

For her second card, Heather used the prompts Orange, Bird, Fibres, Gold and Black Splatters.

Heather said:
“I started with the orange heart-printed background paper. I only covered about two-thirds of the card with it and I outlined the edges in black pen. I wound gold fibres around the card at the place where the background paper finished.
I added orange spots to a frame hand-drawn by Shana then I cut out the bird, the heart and the quote. I coloured the bird with textas to get that bright colour and I cut a slit in its beak to sit the heart into. I cut the quote into individual words, mounted them on white cardstock and scattered them down the card.
I finished by adding black splatters and a fibre tail to the bird.”

We love the way Heather has used only Shana’s packs to create these amazing pieces of art!

Shana has two packs with us and Heather used both of them in each card. Click on the images below to see what other designs are in Shana’s packs:
